The Fukushima Disaster; Unprecedented disruption to the north and mid Island areas of Japan, and her people, almost all manufacturing for the many Japanese business organisations had been shut down regardless of the type of business. Full consequence of this disaster passed on to all Japanese manufacturing and assembly plants across the world following the shut down of Japan. A massive Earth quake was the core problem for the whole region measuring 9.2 Richter scale, and as a consequence of that came the huge Tsunami inflicting untold damage to the coastal areas of Japan.

Fukushima’s Nuclear Power Plant, based on the Tsunami effected coast of Japan was badly damaged by the initial wave impact and deep coastal flood.

The Plutonium process still generating in each of the Reactors now creating enormous pressure with the toxic gases generated inside the reactor its self. The reactor’s ventilation system was either electrically actuated or manually, without power on site having been shut down by the flood and dangerous to access the plant a chosen team of very brave operators were given the task of opening the ventilation shutters manually. Unfortunately they failed to move the shutters, and had to vacate the site once it became apparent to all that the reactors would in time explode spreading a toxic nuclear fall out cloud across more than 70% of the country. Japan’s immediate response took over 12 months to return the country back to almost normal, Fukushima still not open to visit or access without full PPE designed for the Nuclear industry.

Gravloc Seismic Valve has been designed to react to any seismic movement set by the operator, typically anything over 4.0 Richter scale, the valve will automatically actuate at the agreed setting and consequently the independent hydraulic pack and GSS-SV001 valve would open all ventilation shutters hydraulically for each of the four reactors. This procedure would have saved the reactor construction and a more manageable cloud would have vented to atmosphere with the prompt assistance of the action team appointed. This procedure would have happened way before the Tsunami hit, the Gravloc valve reacting directly to the earth quake.
